TIPS FOR TEACHERS
Create a Mood
- Soften the lights
- Play relaxing music
- Remove your shoes
- Remember: this is a "QUIET zone"
Rules for Relaxation
- Stay on your own mat or towel (or at your seat)
- Keep your hands and feet to yourself
- Listen and follow directions
- Think about how you are breathing
Relaxation Breathing
Inhalation:
- Breathe in quietly through the nose
- Feel the belly inflate like a balloon getting filled with air
Exhalation:
- Breathe out quietly through the nose
- Feel the belly deflate like a balloon letting the air out
Teacher Guidelines
- Keep it safe: use exercises you are comfortable
doing and teaching
- Keep it positive: allow students to feel successful by starting with the simplest routines
- Keep it brief: gradually lengthen sessions if
desirable
- Model: let students see you using relaxation
techniques during stressful moments in the
classroom
